BDGC/ Trillium Guerrilla Disc Golf event – March 31 & April 1

Saturday March 31 and Sunday April 1

Bloomington Disc Golf Club and Trillium Project co-host disc golf from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monroe County’s Thomson property south of Schulte’s facility on Strong Drive.  Entrance to the course is from the parking lot west of Schulte.  A $1 donation is requested with proceeds going to the Center for Sustainable Living.  Check out the Facebook Event Page as well.

Guerrilla disc golf involves setting up a temporary course in public green space.  The green space of the Thomson property consists of 80 acres in the midst of Bloomington that lies west of Rogers St. and north of RCA Park.  For many years there has been little activity on this property that consists of a combination of woods, fields and hills that make for an excellent disc golf site.  Participants should be prepared for a walk in the woods with appropriate shoes, long pants, etc.

Trillium is a project of the Center for Sustainable Living that is working in concert with other organizations on a proposal to develop Trillium Horticultural Park on the Thomson property.  Trillium’s vision for the park is to create a multi-use space with programs supporting improved local food security using sustainable horticultural practices.  Programs are also being sought for recreation and for ecological repair of a brownfield site.  More info at www.trilliumhortpark.org.

BDGC and Trillium thank the Monroe County Board of Commissioners, Schulte and the Center for Sustainable Living for making this event possible.

Ice Bowl Recap

Another successful Ice Bowl! Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us for the 2012 Ice Bowl; our first tournament of the year, and our 11th Ice Bowl! We had some fun, had great weather, and raised just under $800 for the Monroe County Community Kitchen.

Special thanks go to everyone who donated extra money, food, and time to this tournament. Our hole sponsors were See Roc City and the Little Wing Disc Golf Club. Thanks to Basket Case for their CTP sposorship. Thanks to the Frazers, Jason Nawrot, Mark Moore, Steve Madsen, and Greg Moore for helping out with food. Thanks to Jason Nawrot for TDing. And a special thank you to the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church for allowing us to use their land and facilities for this tournament! Wouldn’t be the same anywhere else.

Congrats to Jason Nawrot and Mark Moore for taking home the Open trophies. They were on FIRE, including an absolutely scorching 17 down to close out the second round. Congrats also go to Travis Kramer and Jason Vandeventer for pulling in trophies for Advanced, and Cory and Justice Gallagher for winning the Novice division.

Bloomington Ice Bowl on February 18

The Bloomington Ice Bowl has moved to February 18, 2012. It will be held at the grounds of Sherwood Oaks Church, and feature 18 holes of Ice-tastic fun. Check out the tournament site on Disc Golf Scene for more info.

This tournament is mainly to raise money for the Bloomington Community Kitchen, through entry fees and Hole Sponsors. If you’d like to sponsor a hole, or know a business/friend/family member who might, I encourage you to download the sponsorship form (see below). Last year we raised just under $1000 for the CK; I know that we can do even better this year!

Sponsorship Form: http://bdgc.org/downloads/2012_IB_Sponsor_Form.pdf

Additionally, as is traditional, we’ll be doing hot lunch in the kitchen of Sherwood Oaks, and are looking for people to help out with that. It’s always nice to come in from the cold and have a nice bowl of chili! Please let us know if you can bring some chili or anything else. We already have a couple people bringing things – the more the better!

Mark Moore Repeats at the Singularity

Tournament results here.

Mark Moore repeated at this year’s Bloomington Singularity with 11 under par (49/48) to easily take the 1st place trophy. Mark again relied on his trusty rock to sail to first place.

We had another great turnout this year, and raised over $200 to help keep Crestmont in good shape. As many of you know, we lost a basket to a freak car accident last month (we think the basket might have been drinking), so the proceeds from this tournament will easily cover that.

Thanks again for everyone that showed up, and we’ll see you in December for the Cabin Fever Reliever!
